Fallen Hero and Former Kansan

US Army Staff Sergeant Vinson B. Adkinson III

KIA  31 August 2010 in Afghanistan

Mission Completed September 12, 2010

   SSgt Vinson Adkinson was 1 of 4 US Army soldiers who died on 31 August in Logar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked with an improvised explosive device.  SSgt Adkinson was assigned to the 173rd Brigade Support Battalion, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Bamberg, Germany.  He served three tours of duty in Iraq and was serving his second tour of duty in Afghanistan.  His devotion  to "duty, honor, country" is an inspiration to every American citizen.

SSgt Adkinson was listed by the Department of Defense as a resident of Harper, Kansas.  His surviving family members are planning a funeral service to be held in the Duncan, Oklahoma area, with burial in Fort Sill National Cemetery in Fort Sill, OK.
